Comments:

First night was a total bust. I thought the antenna was in good operating
condition.  Even thought the SWR appeared to be okay the amp would not load
right and stations with strong signals had trouble hearing me.  Trusty flash
light in hand, I went out into the woods and discovered the ugly mess that was
my elevated wire ground plane.  The rest of the day was spent rebuilding and
tuning.  

Sadly, conditions on 80M were short of mediocre. No South America, No Asia, only
EA8 and CT3 from Africa, and only one ZL and and one VK from the Pacific (not
even KH6).
