We had a great time! Bill (W5SJ) and Bob (K4UEE) came down on Sunday and we had
a nice week before the contest. They quickly adapted to our regular routine of
9:30 AM donuts at the local restaurant and the BBQ at Brac Reef on Friday
evening just before the start. we enjoyed the company of good friends.
Everything worked out in the end, although there was a time on Saturday
afternoon when I feared I would go into full panic mode over the fact that my
old computer failed us by refusing to work for more than a few minutes at a
time. After a couple hours of trying with the old computer on Saturday
afternoon, we set up W5SJ's laptop to do the necessary functions with N1MM and
the WinKeyer. That laptop along with the nice computer WU2X put together for me
worked flawlessly for the remainder of the contest. As Rosanne Rosannadanna
said..."It's always something. If it isn't one thing, it's another."
Kevin operated via remote from Arkansas for several hours during the middle of
tne night when everyone would have liked to have been asleep and then was able
to get on for a few hours on Sunday. We appreciate the contribution and pleased
he could be on the team.
We were quite pleased that 10m opened, enabling us to make over 1200 contacts on
10 with 140 stations worked on all six bands. Those contacts and the multipliers
that came with them helped us claim to have beaten the record for low power in
the multi-single category.
Sadly, Bill and Bob will return to the States tomorrow. Although we had a nice
dinner at the resort to celebrate our effort, I'll bet you will find Stan and
Rita back at Star Island Monday morning around 9:30.
Thank you so much for all the contacts. We had fun and hope everyone enjoyed
the good conditions.
