Comments:

No antennas just 2 days before contest. Raced to put up my A50-3S 3 element on a
ground mounted 5' Rohn tripod behind the shed in back yard. ordered a six set of
4' Army surplus heavy duty aluminum tent poles, and slid 4 of them together to
get the antenna up ~17-18' in the air. No rotor, so many trips to the antenna
from the shack to rotate, 125' each way. I put in my steps this weekend!
Conditions at the gun Saturday not so good. Conditions were much better Saturday
late afternoon and evening. Sunday was a blast. Signals in the afternoon were so
strong from most directions, I either left the beam SW or NE for long periods.
Very, very happy to see all the CW activity. My main focus was CW and a bit of
SSB. Digi when Analog either faded away of no more takers.
My 36 year old Bencher paddles finally decided to go belly midway through Sunday
afternoon. I slap, not squeeze! lost spring tension and struggled running after
that. Kluged them together to finish the contest, but it wasn't pretty. Thank
you to all the ops that hung in there to get their exchange when the paddles
failed.
TCG ops in the log here, AC4G, AJ6T, WD4CFN, WF7T, K4RO... Almost in log was Ted
W3TB. Called several times, but best response I got was a couple ? ? and the
SRI... Ted, you were perfectly copyable here!
Late Saturday evening the Es were dropping right into the IL/WI EN grids, and I
was able to work a bunch of my SMC brothers! Nice to get y'all in the log!

Lots of fun, lots of activity, and a couple miles walked...priceless.

Thanks for the Qs!

Rig, K3S, 85 watts to 3 elements at ~17'
