What a thrill to have 10 meters back after many years of being weak
or totally absent. 10 opened wide about 11 am both days and produced
some fantastic runs all day. 40 - 15 were also very strong as usual.
80m and especially 160 were a struggle with us missing many easy mults
on 160 after many unsuccessful moves. Thanks to all of you who gave it
a try for us. Congrats to a great effort by the J68HZ team. They gave us a run
for our money after beating us out last year.
This year's team consisted of veterans John-K6AM, Levi, K6JO, and
Marty NN1C. 20 year old Marty was back after doing the CW test just two weeks
earlier. He has only done ARRL SSB once by remote, but has
done much of the station design work over the past few years.
22 year old Levi honed his skills over two years being here in person and has
become a world class speedster. 76 year old John started at ZF1A back in 1999
and is ready the quit while he is ahead.
The station is in great shape after the recent antenna upgrades and new gear
that was added. Marty and John pushed the envelope to include all the latest
technical tricks. Everything worked nearly perfectly once we figured out how
it all worked.
As always, a huge thanks to Andrew, ZF1EJ and the Cayman Amateur Radio Society
for the use of the world class station.
We are leaving the station set up for more remote operation so look for us in
more upcoming contests.
That's it for me as I am retiring from contesting after this one. Thanks to all
of you who worked me at ZF1A over the past 23 years. I know our next
generation
crew will continue the tradition for many years to come.
