Thanks as always to Kam for being such a great host. I have been doing lots of
contests and travel lately so I was a little short on PTO. I was only able to
get to the station on Thursday. This is always a gamble because I really like
to get there several days early to truly test everything before the contest. I
discovered an issue about an hour before the contest but we had just enough time
to make the needed changes and I was ready at 2357z.
Since I didnt have any time to actually get a 20m freq going I decided to start
on 15m instead. This worked out well as I had over 200 in the log in the first
30 minutes. No big rate hours this year as I topped out at around 385.
2BSIQ on ssb is just hard and even more mentally draining than it is on CW. I
did 2BSIQ for about 40 out of the 48 hours. It is an advantage for sure, but I
am not sure I am willing to subject myself to that anymore. This might be the
last major SSB contest that I do as a single op. Multi ops are just so much
better.
It was fun having 10m open, and I grinded it out all day long. It was always
open somewhere, but never seemed to be open everywhere at once. The rates were
never high but they were steady. I was really hoping that 10m would support
more than 2k q's but propagation just didn't allow it this year.
The low bands were terrible just like everyone else. I was down 1200 q's and 21
mults on 40 thru 160 this year compared to the last time I did this contest from
Kam's in 2020.
Thanks for all the q's and especially to the guys in the rarer states that
attempted to move. Only about half of the moves were successful but it just
adds an extra element of strategy and makes the contest more fun.
73,
Dan N6MJ
