A great contest for those of us in Oceania and many thanks to the contest
sponsors! Conditions were the best I have experienced here in my 5+ years on the
island. The 40 meter band was extra fun the second night when it opened to
Europe. Flutter on all signals and the weirdest multiple echo on some that would
build up over several hundred milliseconds made copy a challenge. I'm sure I got
a good number of exchanges incorrect. To copy reliably through the build up
ringing would take characters spaced far apart. Asking for QRS to enable copy
was futile. SA stations continue to thing KH6 is in NA and would send DX rather
than a serial number. The PV system between my QTH and the mainland was again in
fine form today. I often had better results turning the beam 90 degrees to it so
I could copy stations. Apparently I had enough signal off the side to keep
running stations at around 60/hr. 10 meters was excellent and was open late to
the west. Many, many stations called with S/N 001 and that helped my score
immensely. A big mahalo to all, especially those guys. I learned that leaving
the APF enabled helped with my noisy RF environment.
