Comments:
I made over 450 CWT sessions in the last 3 years, but missed the last 5 CWTs due
to 9 days in the hospital. I was tired, but it took 6 hours for me to get my 98
year old dad in to the doctor and get a prescription the day before I had an
appointment to discuss a kidney stone. I don't normally need a wheel chair, but
felt weak when we went to see the kidney doctor. My cancer has made it
difficult to get good rest, and I lost 13 pounds the first part of the week.
After the appointment my wife drove me to the ER. They found very low blood
pressure, severe dehydration, a kidney infection, sepsis in my blood, and a need
for a kidney stent. I spent five days in critical care where they diagnosed
problems and saved my life. I was moved to a regular room and needed 10 days of
antibiotic IVs.
I am home now and napping a lot. So I have a new contest accessory - antibiotics
every 4 hours! I get queasy, and wake up at night when the pump starts, but work
through it. Actually, I feel better than I have in the last 5 years, although a
bit apprehensive. My normal immunotherapy side effects are gone for the
moment.
It took a few days before I could get out to the shack, but CWTs have always
been an assessment of how well the station was being improved, and how I felt.
In retrospect I was groggy and could not complete a full hour. I should have
known a couple weeks ago that something subtle was wrong.
I started on 80 and it seemed that there was a bit more activity than usual, but
I only spent 19 minutes there. The 4 square is quite good. I missed 2 minutes
because the Flex/N1MM hung and had to restart.
40 was OK, but I don't dominate there. The inverted vee is pretty
omnidirectional After $4000 to put on the SteppIR upgrades for 40 meters it
still does not work. There is a flood of comments on the reflector. It's good to
be alive.
