I have never see a blown bandswitch either, Carl.  Have you ever seen a 
tube failure?  if so, did you perform the Funderberg test to see if there 
was any loose gold inside the envelope?  Ever measure the R of the VHF 
suppressor resistors after a "big-bang"?
