[AMPS] Padding Caps Discussion

The dicussion on the padding caps has been quite good.  Years ago, I put on
a pair of 572Bs on 160 meters, before the proliferation of people on the band.

To pad the tuning capacitor to get enough pf for the pi-net, I used a piece
of teflon, several mills thick ( I cannot remember exactly) and laid it on
the chasis, then mounted another piece of aluminum over that.  Used some
plastic bolts and nuts to make my own padding cap.  Worked well after I
figure out how to calculate the effectivv capactance.  Didn't seem to drift
at all.

Anyone try that approach recently?
