The 76A uses more costly tubes` and it has no tuned inputs.  Unlike 
8874s, 3-500Zs are instant-on and they can not be fatally-damaged by low 
electric-mains voltage.  The 76A has 160m coverage, which the SB-220 
lacks.  Adding 160m coverage to an SB-220 is not a piece of cake.
