>will still do custom orders for plate transformers etc. They also
>still maunufacture a filament transformer for the 4-1000 (model 167V7
>...7.5 volts @21 amps...I have 2 at home that i purchased this year)
>and for many other tubes as well. HV plate transformers are no
>longer part of their bread and butter as they once were though, so
>they are a definitely a custom order.
>
>Avatar Magnetics (see ARRL handook for phone #) is another source.

>I'd suggest anyone living near a big city check the yellow pages.
>There are usually a few small father-and-son type transformer shops
>listed that will do one-of-a-kind jobs. But since a HV plate
>transformer for linear amplifier use (usually with C input filtering)
>is a fairly uncommon beast for these guys, you may have to do some of
>the specifying for them. They'd likely wind a 1 amp secondary with
>#32 wire based on present standard practice for current densitys in
>transformers. It'll be up to you to know that the peak secondary
>current will probably be more like 4 to 6 amps with a 1 amp load.

>Since the canadian dollar is low and american transformers are
>therefore ridiculously expensive, I've embarked on winding my own HV
>transformer(s) ...after studying the subject for approximately 6
>months, touring a couple of facilities and speaking with designers
>from a few companys. Core laminations (E-I and cut 'C' cores) have
>been sourced and I should be ready to do my first prototype soon. If
>it doesn't go well, you likely won't see me mention it again. If
>(when) I produce a decent unit, I may consider taking the occasional
>order. Right now, this is just a hobby project - it's a lot of work,
>but it's still fun.

Now thats some GOOD information Phil, tnx for sharing it. I would also be
interested in discussing some custom work with you.

The last I checked, Hammond filament xfmr prices were much lower than
Dahl.
