[AMPS] Henry Amps Customer Service

Aloha,

You may recall I purchased a Henry Ultra amp last Winter.
It has stopped keying up from 15 meters on up through 10M.

After much telephone debugging, it seems that a ferrite
core, used in the front end input circuit, which is relay
switched in line above 21 MHz (T103 in the Ultra circuit),
has failed.

It seems the ferrite material is probably from a bad
mix, and with some time is degrading/cracking!

I volunteered to open the unit and attempt to replace this
part. However, have been advised this is not field
repairable! So the entire RF deck must go back from
Kauai to the factory.

They decided to build a suitable shipping container and
ship it out to me; I would disassemble the pedestal,
remove the RF deck, pack same in the provided
container, and ship back to the plant. Mind you now,
this is all In Warranty Service.

Have talked to Meredith Henry a couple of times about this
process. Well, this morning she called with the news her
son, Ted Henry, would be landing on Kauai next Tuesday!

Surprise!

He will bring the necessary box if nothing can be done
here. He really wants to spend little time here on this,
as his plan is to go off backpacking in the beautiful
interior and Na Pali Coast areas of our Garden Island,
Kalalau Valley region.

So, I will meet him at the airport in Lihue Tuesday
afternoon, receive the large shipping container he
will bring as "baggage" on the flight. He can go off
back packing, if he wishes, and I'll come home and
have a lot of fun getting down inside this beast!!
Will probably be very interesting. Maybe I can borrow
KH6FMT's digital Sony and get some photos along
the way.

I am really pleased at both the time and service the Henry
family has spent, and is continuing to spend on this problem,
which is probably no fault of theirs, but of a vendor. What
a neat company with which to do business! Meredith told
me they, probably Ted, would fix up a written set of instructions
for me to follow in the disassembly room, hi. He might
get Paul Johnson, one of the Henry engineers to
do it, since it seems it was his idea to have the
deck sent back to the factory: he insisted I could
not do the repair out here.

Different topic: I am looking for a Ten Tec remote VFO
Model 242. This unit matches the new-to-me Triton
IV, 544 digital model. Am having fun with this little
guy; keys up the Henry just fine up to 20 meters now.
Dan, maybe you could spot one for me at one of
the many swap meets,  Hamfests you attend;
greatly appreciate if you did fine one!

Glad I bought my Henry and they built it just for me!
Has more doodads and goodies than are ever mentioned
at Dan's Henry Amp web site, hi!

73, Jim, KH7M
