YES!  Back in my apprentice days at marconi's in the 1960's, I worked on
receiver protection against lightning. We used a 15kV ionisation detector
that could produce 100 microamps to charge 2 microfarads to 15kV, and let it
go througfh a spark gap into the rx front end.

Be careful.
