  I gather that you are alluding to some incarnation of Class D rather
than a Class C critter?


  If you ascribe the same efficiencies to a Class C(or D) SSB amplifier
and consider the real world SSB duty cycle including reasonable speech
processing.... but, no whistling allowed! :-)    Then, under the old 1KW
DC input rules something in the vicinity of 3KW PEP output would be
achievable.    


  Whereas, under today's rules (single RF cycle peak power measurement)
1500 W PEP out is 1500 W PEP out, no matter how much you heat the shack
to make it.    I would score that as a 3 dB decrease from what was
technically possible under the old rules.
