Looking for either a Exorcist or explanation ....
Have just completed a HB 4-1000A amp using a 4PR-1000A tube that is a =
radar pulse pullout. This tube is NOT, I repeat, NOT gassy. It has been =
tested and compared to several with full emission. On all bands, 160-10 =
meters the amplifier has what one would expect for output power running =
only 4 KV on the tube.
ONLY on 15 meters when the amp is keyed CW at 1200 watts output there is =
a blue ring around the envelope of the tube about 1/2 inch high. After =
being keyed for about 10 seconds I saw a quick drop in output power of =
about 200 watts and at that point I let off the key. I have never seen =
this with any of the many 4-1000A amps I have built over the years. Have =
you ? I am going to try to capture this "blue glowing ring" on my =
digital camera...if I succeed I will make it available via email.
As soon as I get my hands on another good tube I will try that...next =
week.
Thanks to all that put your minds to this,
Terry W6RU
