And the 4CX1000. But both of those tubes were aimed at grounded cathode
applications with very low grid dissipation. Anyhow, the 3CX800 apparently
has no problems IF USED CORRECTLY - and to my mind, that means protection.

I guess the days of tubes like 807s that would withstand major abuse have
gone - instead we get higher gain, smaller size and better efficiency in
tubes.
