[AMPS] I don't get it!

I rather enjoy the discussion; read it and learn, or relearn, a lot. If one
does not want to read it, it is so very easy to hit the 'delete' key. Just
don't start getting 'catty' with each other, that ruins it for us all.

I don't get it.

People complain about the fact that ham radio is no longer a technical
hobby - that all we are is appliance operators.

Yet when a technical discussion ensues where they can learn something,
they suddenly throw up their hands and say, "Hold on a minute.  I am an
amateur, not a technical person!"

So which is it, folks?  I like to think that those of us on amps are more
technically skilled than the rest.  I also like to think that there is a
lot that all of us can learn.  I know I have learned a great deal about
tube amplifier design from the members of this list.

As to all the ">>>>" attribution quotes, perhaps they go to far, however,
being that I've read all of the previous messages, those don't end up
confusing me.  Only when I haven't read the entire thread is it a problem.

And regarding splitting hairs: Yes, there are some here that are
extremely guilty of that.  And while I don't necessarily try to split
hairs, I get caught up in it because I feel that a point is not been
properly explained or understood.  Undoubtably, there are others like
myself.  And there are people who exploit that.

If you aren't interested in a particular topic after a while, use the
delete key.  That's not a slam or a flame, but just the way you should do
it.  I do this with a lot of messages.

Anyhow, are we as hams a technical lot who want to continue to grow our
technical knowledge or are we appliance operators?

Which is it?  We can't have it both ways.
