I stand corrected.  You are correct!  It was late last night and I was 
quite tired and also didn't have my textbooks at home to verify what I 
was saying!  Yes, the voltage along the line varies and the SWR is the 
ratio of those peaks and valleys.

And in the real world, the losses in the TX line cause the SWR to 
decrease as you have a greater length of line.
