High Power Microwave Tube Transmitters is a 385 page text written by
William North. This is one of the best authorative manuals on the
theory and practice of large tube RF power systems, modulators, power
supplies, and associated hardware. It is very specialized to this
practice, for particle accelerator, radar, star wars, and similar RF
applications. The focus is mainly on klystron systems, but gridded
tubes are included, and pulsed systems are traditional in this
specialty. The entire document was prepared and funded by Los Alamos
National Laboratory in 1994, and has just been scanned online. IT IS
VERY LARGE, 25 Megabytes in size, as a PDF file. It appears that few
shortcuts or optimizations were made to compress it. For those of you
on high speed datalinks, ADSL, T1, etc. it might be possible to
download a copy. Here is the link at our library. Please don't ask me
to download and print or ship a copy out. I hope this link works from
"out there".
