Interesting observation and good question. .  .  The AL-80 and similar 
SB-1000 do not seem to have enough bypassing on the HV lead for anything 
below 7MHz operation.  .  It would have been better to put some more 
discs on the hv itself.  1000pF(?) at 1.8MHz is not much of a bypass.
