There have been some good tidbits about ALC lately, and I'd like to have a
little additional info.
I had always assumed that ALC was ALC was ALC. I.e., you could mix and
match about any old transceiver ALC with just about any old final amp ALC
(I'm speaking of those final amps that have an ALC provision; some of the
older ones didn't have ALC). Not so, says a couple of guys. Not so fast,
there. Those things sort of have to be a "matched pair" before you're
assured of them being compatible together.
I understand the concepts of what ALC does for us, and, in general, how it
works. I do need to know in what way finals and exciters may not have
compatible ALC provisions. What should I look for to figure out whether
they are compatible or not?
