Rich hits on a good point. Never size the bandswitch so it is the 
lowest voltage breakdown component in the tank. 

There should always be an air-gap with large surface area that 
breaks down before expensive components like vacuum variables 
and switches.

If Kenwood did that, and didn't include a gap, it is an engineering 
error. That's because HF voltages can easily reach levels that 
destroy switches and other components if the PA is misloaded.
