[AMPS] Unnecessary Quoting

I don't agree, but from time to time someone needs to feel important by
changing the way everybody does things.

Wonder why?

If I want to read your reply, there it is at the top. I can see who you are
replying to and what he said without having to dig through archives. If I
don't want to read the original message, I need read no further.

The bandwidth consumed by quoting every plain text message that comes
through here in a week is probably less than that required to dig one
message out of the archives.

Geez.

Subject: [AMPS] Unnecessary Quoting

|
| I enjoy following the AMPS reflector except for the habit of some
subscribers
| who always seem to include ALL of the message they are replying to. Often
| the reply is only a fraction of the entire message they send.
|
| All subscribers get all the messages. If they miss one, they can go to the
| archives.
|
| Before sending a message where you are replying and have included the
| previous message(s), delete all of the previous messages except for a few
| lines so that your statements or questions have context if required.
|
| I can predict some will say they have to include all the previous messages
| because they will be accused of quoting something out of context. Spare me
| please. We can go back to the original messages ourselves, and if you have
| taken something out of context, we will be reminded by the originator of
the
| message.
|
| Please save some bandwidth and more importantly -- save us the trouble and
| time of searching through long quoted messages to find what wisdom you
| have added.
|
| Paul.
