There was an early VHF transceiver for the RAF (late 1940) that used a specially
selected 807  (called an 8018) at 120MHz. It was sort of Class C, but they
modulated the driver - don't know why.

Still wouldn't choose an 811 for 50MHz. As far as the Bill Hoisington (K1CLL)
designs went, he had a whole slew of them for 50, 144 and 432 in 73 magazine in
the mid to late 60's, and there were quite a number of people who complained
that they didn't work.
