Wynand,
Considering efficieny being around 65% in class B the amp probably
takes 12 A at 240V mains through that VARIAC.
I would not worry on sideband with about 30% dutycycle.
Peak-current will be not more then 13 A.
On RTTY or high-speed CW you might need to cool the VARIAC .
