Jerry,
            In older ARRL Handbooks (and probably newer ones also), there is 
a description of how to estimate the KVA rating of ordinary transformers.  It 
basically involves measuring the cross-sectional area of the core contained 
within the windings and that value is applied to a graph given in the book.
