There are no stupid questions here, Jerry.
A "pole pig" is a nick-name given a transformer used by the=20
power companies. They mount on a utility pole which is fed
by several thousand volts from a generating plant and converts
down to 240 volts to feed residential service into a home. They
are mounted in a large metal  sealed can filled with oil.

Years ago, before central air conditioning etc. the "pole pigs"
were smaller; 10 kva or less. I talked my local power company
out of one in 1954. I removed the transformer from the can and
used it wired in reverse to produce 6,000 volts from my 240 volt
line, powering a 4-1000A amp. Thousands of hams did this up until
the transformers got too large to fit in a typical 19 inch cabinet.

? ?  ?  I sorry to  ask stupid question.  We used dead man sticks while =
entering the transmitting section of 1 Mega Watt Transmitter before =
