Contesting: 	Much processing, duty cycle & bandwidth. 
Reliably:  	I ended up with a newer Alpha
Dentron:	 	I bought cheap, but didn't finish cheap
re-tube: 		"Worked well when last used..."
Transformer: 	Visited with Peter Dahl, see Dentron
Out 1500 watts:	The second or third purchase I made...
Dreaming: 	Alpha, Commander and "handles" 
3 Tube Alpha: 	Used amp you will prob re-tube (Dentron)
$1100 Alpha: 	Needs PS Caps replaced,  tubes fair
MLA-2500's:	See Dentron 
Suggestion: 	I haven't found a really great deal yet
Low Cost:	See Dentron again
Contest use:	My processor knob is full on, always.

One option appears to be the Dentron MLA-2500.  They are available for
~$500.  It appears that it might be possible to re-tube them with either
the
3CX800A or the 4CX800A, probably with a transformer upgrade, and get them
to
put out 1500 watts.  Then again, maybe I am dreaming and the power supply
and output circuits would not deal well with 1500 watts :-)

Maybe 3 tube Alpha 76PA's are a better option - I already have one and it
is
rock solid.  At $1100 or so, they might be cheaper than the modified
MLA-2500's anyway.

What would your suggestion be for a low cost, reasonably reliable amp
that
will do 1500 watts out in contest use?
