After 400 000+ HF mobile miles I use the following proven configuration:

One 100 AH Exide gel battery connected to the terminals of the 500 watt HF amplifier.
The battery is located adjacent to the HF amplifier, in the trunk of the car and is connected in parallel to the car starter battery.
Wire length: 1.5 ft, wire diameter 0.5", fused with a 120 amp fuse block (From a freightliner)
One 1 Farad cap connected to the power terminals of the amplifier
Voltage drop at 600 watt carrier output is 0.5 Volt, measured at the power terminals of the amp.

The amplifier is the SC-500 rom SCS
Radio ICOM 706MKIIG
The antenna is the HiQ 4/80 from HiQantennas (www.hiqantennas.com)

Grounding: the radio, amplifier and antenna are all grounded to one central grounding post at the car chassis.
