[Amps] Drake L4 conversion to use 3CX1200A7, discussed in CQ 10-1985

Greetings,

I was wondering what the thoughts and opinions are regarding the article 
in CQ magazine discussing the conversion of a 2-tube L4B to use the 
3CX1200A7.

[ continued, 5 minutes later, after researching tube prices ]

Holy cow - $900 for a single tube?  Nevermind.


How well do the 8877 conversions perform?  I see a fair number of L4s 
being converted to use the 8877.
