[Amps] 3-1000 or 4-1000?

Is it possible to tell the difference between a 3-1000
and a 4-1000 just by looking? We have one where the
lettering is completely disappeared. If it is relevant
it has a metal 'base' - which means I can't see which
pins are connected....
