All those fans that Heath used had shaded pole motors on them. Another
name for them is "refrigeration fans". Most all refrigeration or HVAC
suppliers carry them. You can buy the motor with or without the blade..
They run about $12-$15 each for 115Vac models. If your wanting to fix
the old one, this is simple. There are two screws which holds the
endbells on, one on each side. Remove them and slide the endbells off
the shaft. Go to your local sporting good dealer and buy a .22 caliber
gun cleaning brush and wiper. These are for cleaning the bores on 22
barrels. Use them with some cleaning fluid to clean the bores of both
bearings. Clean the rotor of the motor and the shafts. Before you put
the endbells back on, look at the front of each where the shaft hole is.
You'll notice a felt wick there that will be visible. They use this as a
seal and to hold oil for each bearing. Take some 3-in-1 oil and oil each
to where they are soaked. Assemble the motor back making sure the rotor
turns freely. It should be repaired. If you'd rather replace it, Granger
carries these also for mail order.
