[Amps] drake l4 PS questions

A friend of mine asked me to look at his Drake L4 power supply. I see 
a resistor, 5k 10w burned and a few wires scorched. Reading and looking
at the schematic
this is supposed to go if any of the diodes short in the rectifier
section. 
I'll replace the resistor and was thinking of "upgrading" the diodes.
Then plug it in
and look for any other items of concern.

Any thought/comments?
