It would probably not function.
The force that caused the glass to break would be enough to send the plate to mars. Even it it would take a while.

That's easy Hal. They would have been instructed to log onto
amps at contesting.com where they would enter discussions on microgravity, why
they are running tubes instead of solid state, and someone would ask this:
if they put the 3-500Z amp on a tether outside the space station into the
"vacuum" of space and the glass broke on the 3-500Z, would the 3-500Z still
keep operating.
In short, they would be so excited by the discussions, they would forget the
original question.
