Second harmonic attenuation, and less C2 is required than a pi.
A torroid conserves space, and can be mounted next to the chassis.

Other than lower harmonic distortion, what is the benefit of going with a 
Pi-L tank? What is the typical efficiency of the two? Often a toroid is used

for L2. Is the main reason to conserve space?
