assuming you bought a pre-fabed cable like Romex 6-3 w/ground  the 3  
insulated wires would be #6 and the bare bond wire would be #`10.  In some  instances 
you may reduce the size of the neutral based on the load.  There  are 
specific codes involved with the reduction of neutral size.   Lou
