It all depends on your viewpoint.

All the items you mentioned, excepting ham radio gear, affects just about
everyone. Another item in this class is the PC most of use to participate
in this discussion. In 1967 there was no PC as we know today. The first
IBM PC cost about $5,000. What do you pay today for a PC with capabilities
far exceeding the original?

One can obtain a radio today that will outperform the original Collins for
quite a bit less. But, comparing the price of "top of the line" radios, you
can still spend a significant percentage of a typical annual salary. As in
1967, few will choose to own one of these radios.

In 1967, first class US postage cost 5 cents. It will shortly be 42 cents.

In 1967, gold was priced at $35/oz. Today it is circa $600/oz.

In 1967, a modestly optioned Ford Mustang (automobile) sold for $2800,
today's version is circa $28,000.

In 1967, the modest homes in my neighborhood were valued around $20,000.
Today, they are in the vicinity of $800,000.

In 1967, a top of the line ham radio, a (100 watt output) Collins KWM-2A
w/noise blanker & power supply cost $1400 (not including the $480 crystal
pack for almost all band coverage and the $740 antenna tuner). The
Hilberling PT-8000A at $10,000 (100 watt version at 1.27
dollars/euro) would appear to be a fair value. Plus it includes quite
a few extra features beyond the KWM-2A. :-)

The US government likes to proffer that there is no inflation -- It's only
the prices have risen!
