Bill,

Yes it looks that the 550 Vdc is a bias. The other current applied to the stators would be at audio frequency. As long as there's enough insulation between the ear and the diaphram, it shouldn't reach out and grab ya, Hi Hi! It is enough to make one think though when wearing them, LOL!! Maybe there should be a warning that says "Do not use after swimming"....
