I can confirm it is more than "apparently". I owned an AL-1200 which
twice had the plastic coil supports let go while running at full
power, once on 80 meters and once on 160 meters, both RTTY.

I sold the rig to a non-RTTY op and as far as I know he is happy with
it.

If I had kept it, I would have added a fan to cool the tank coil and
it might have been ok. My experience says tank coils in any amplifier
should either be air wound (preferably) or on a ceramic form. No
plastic for me.
