In the automatic test machines at work, they usually had to replace the electro mechanical RF attenuators about every 6 months or so - that was at about 1 million operations. Expensive business.........we tended to end up building attenuators into test fixtures so that the generators could sit at constant output, and the test techs just had to replace small reed relays.
