Peter suggests "something like 10 Megohm from rotor to ground"

There is another advantage to that.  Without the resistor to ground, there 
could be a voltage between the rotor and grounded stator.  It would not be 
discharged by the bleeder resistors.  Because of the low capacitance, the 
charge would be slight - but could tickle some unsuspecting fingers.
