However, the reliable-amplifier mindset would much rather have
a machine capable of 6500 watts, including the beefiness of all the
components inside at that rating, loafing along at legal versus pushing
something with 1.5KW as its maximum output.

Richard,
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but that extra 6500 watts will get
you just over ONE S-unit more signal. So that "big" Henry 8K isn't going
to make your signal much bigger.
