Objet : [Amps] Bad tubes and bad shipping

My post concerning bad tubes generated some responses that would put the
blame on the entity doing the transportation.

I personally don't believe that's the case.

The majority of tubes in question were GU74's. They were well packed.
Each tube was individually wrapped with foam and taped. That package was
then boxed with about 2 more inches of foam around the wrapped tube. The
boxes arrived with no indication of having been used for "sporting
events" in the mail room. They were delivered by the USPS.

These are military tubes. Military personal of any country origin are
much more efficient at destroying packages than any shipping
organization. They are younger, have much more energy to devote to the
project, and have more to prove. These tubes are spec'd for shock and
vibration. They have to be. A little rock and roll in the post office
should be nothing for them.

The tubes are obtained by these sellers from unknown sources by unknown
means. I could speculate about this process but won't here. Enough to
say that most of them offered for sale now are floor sweepings from the
factory or depot level maintance facilities. They are not tested by the
sellers. If there is a problem the seller blames the user for
incompetance. Win-win for the seller, lottery chances for the buyer.

How about one of these sellers trusting me instead of the other way
around? I still could use a couple of GS-35's. How about one of these
so-called reputable sellers sending me a tube. I'll test it and if it
really is good, I'll pay the asking price for it. If bad it goes in the
dumpster, no harm no foul. I'm not going to hold my breath waitng for
this to happen!

Good luck in the tube lottery!

73, Larry
