[Amps] 230v wiring question

Most all "Romex" or NM cable as it is, meaning non-metallic outer covering,  
has a bare copper conductor the same size as the insulated wires up to size 
#8.  Once you hit size #6, the bare copper wire is smaller than the insulated  
wires.  This bare wire is the equipment ground, which would be the same as  a 
green wire that would be pulled in a non metallic conduit for an equipment  
grounding conductor.  Take BX for example, this has a metallic jacket and  is 
"code" for use as the equipment grounding conductor in residential  wiring.  In 
commercial  use MC cable must be used which has a 3rd  green wire and therefore 
the jacket is not considered an  equipment grounding conductor.  For most 
amplifiers that put out up to  1500 watts, and for runs back the circuit breaker 
panel of 75 feet or less #12-2  wire is more than adequate.  Amplifiers 
capable of higher output than 1500  watts with runs of wire over 75 feet to the 
panel may require larger than #12  wire, one may consider #10 or higher depending 
on the amplifier needs.   Lou
