[Amps] What is the best way to run a pair of 4-1000 tubes

The 4X1 was used in a huge number of 5KW AM BC transmitters; 2 in the RF 
deck and 2 as modulators. When the RF tubes got soft they were used in the 
modulators. By the time a ham got them they were fairly well down on 
emission. This is why you see so many comments about low output on 10/15M.

They were also used industrially in shake tables and RF heating to some 
degree. Pulse versions were used in welding, radar modulators and several 
other applications. Ive also seen some with JAN markings but the date codes 
were usually in the 60's.

When you see a cheap one at a hamfest you can bet it is mighty tired and 
looking for a sucker to buy it. I used to sell those to CBers, especially 
the gassy ones!

I used to build 1 and 2 holers for customers in the 80's-90's. With good 
tubes I had no problem getting 1500W + out on 10M with one tube at 4200V in 
GG at 100W drive. Two tubes took twice the drive for about twice the output 
and there again was no problem on 10M. Many of those amps are still in 
service.
