I agree. I joined this list several years ago after nearly 50 
years in ham radio with 100 watt radios. In response to BPL and 
increasingly high noise levels, I bought a used amplifier and went 
QRO. I now own three. I appreciated the help I received from the 
more thoughtful members, but was disgusted by the sniping and 
"mine is bigger than yours" that dominated so many exchanges. 

I think the quality has improved dramatically since those who 
wanted to argue, and who thought science was a matter of personal 
opinion have moved elsewhere. Science, including the laws of 
physics, is not decided by majority vote, nor by who shouts the 
loudest. 

Moreover -- an email reflector shoulod NOT be the place to learn 
the basics of electronics, radio, or how amplifiers work. It 
should not be "ask docter science." That's what text books and 
ARRL publications are for. A reflector like this is a place where, 
once one has paid those dues, or is running into issues, or has 
questions about specific problems or amps or parts or techniques, 
one can interchange information and get advice from others who 
have also paid those dues.
