Take a look at K5AM's 4CX1000A amp, built in the 80's, I think. Key elements of the design include a passive, grid driven design which eliminates much of the input circuit. But for this you are looking at a tetrode rather than a triode like the 8877. Possibly, a 4CX1500B would be a better tube to consider.
