It sounds like it was a copied or spoof auction to me. A fraudster rips 
the text and photographs of a high value item from a genuine auction and 
then pastes them in to create an auction for something he/she doesn't 
own.  A giveaway is often a very low or zero feedback rating and no 
Paypal. Plus you won't get sensible answers to questions because the 
seller knows little or nothing about the item. If you win the auction 
they'll try and get you to send them money by Western Union or similar 
and of course you'll never see the item.

Another hobby of mine is vintage HiFi and I see spoof auctions for gear 
quite often. If you have a specialist area and regularly look at ebay, 
or you have a favourite search set up for an item you start to remember 
the details of past auctions. I've even seen spoof auctions running at 
the same time as the genuine auction! I've alerted ebay several times 
and in each case they have pulled the auction.
