However this rarely slows down the alligators, especially on 160M.


I have observed that many 160 meter operators have developed an uncanny gift
of "ESP". They observe the speed and rate of the unheard station by
listening to others work him. They then call the unheard station, give a
"5NN" and say "TU". They then mail off a QSL card, and most times get a
confirmation back, assuming enough green stamps were enclosed. Of great aid
to the "ESP" operator are the helpful cops on frequency that prompt him that
he is being called by the unheard station. He then repeats the above, with
an almost 100% confirmation rate.

All this, without ever hearing a peep out of the DX station itself!
