Hi Bob,
  The ol' MPS-U10 was originally a Motorola part, obsoleted almost 20 years ago.

  Suitable available substitutes would include:

     The MJE340, 2N5656, and 2N5657 

 Made by On Semiconductor the successor to that part of the Motorola discrete line.

   Incidently, the screen regulator circuit that I employ with my 4CX1500B is posted on my webpage at:
